Memorial Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a well-established practice located in Texas. Our services include simple and complex dental extractions, wisdom teeth removal, oral pathology diagnosis and treatment, dental implants, pre-prosthetic surgery, facial trauma, and maxillary and mandibular bone grafting. We are certified to provide local anesthesia, nitrous oxide anesthesia, PO (oral), IV sedation, and General Anesthesia. Our doctors have over 65 years of combined experience and are all Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. We understand that any surgical procedure can cause stress and anxiety. Our goal is to make your experience as pleasant as possible.   • Michael V. O'Shell, DDS

    Meet Dr. O’Shell

    A native of Texas, Dr. O’Shell grew up in Beaumont. He began his educational training at the University of Texas in Austin prior to attending the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston. After graduation from Dental School, Dr. O’Shell was accepted into the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Program at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. This residency program only accepts one resident per year. Dr. O’Shell practices the full scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery with a clinical emphasis on dental implants, facial trauma, and wisdom teeth removal. Dr. O’Shell has been in practice since 2000.

  • George Quirk, DDS

    Meet Dr. Quirk

    Dr. Quirk was born in Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree and then continued his education at their school of dentistry. At this graduation, he was given membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. During the Korean war, Dr. Quirk provided dentistry as a full lieutenant in the US Navy at Chase Field in Beeville, Texas. Following an honorable discharge, he began his studies of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Graduate School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Anne, then returned to Texas where, in Houston, he completed the required years in hospital residency under Dr. Edward Hinds. Dr. Quirk opened his private practice of OMS (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) in Houston where he continues to practice with his colleagues Drs. Michael O’Shell and Thai Vuu. During his many years as an OMS, Dr. Quirk served as President of the Houston Society of OMS, and as President of the Southwest Society of OMS. He continues membership with the Houston Society of OMS, the Southwest Society of OMS, the Texas Society of OMS, as a Fellow with the American Association of OMS, as a diplomate of the American Board of OMS, the Greater Houston Dental Society, the Texas State Dental Society, and the American Dental Society. He is an active instructor with the ACLS team at the University of Texas at Houston Dental Branch.

  • Thai M. Vuu, DDS, MD

    Meet Dr. Vuu

    Dr. Vuu was born in Saigon, Vietnam and came to America when he was 2 years old. His family initially settled in Pennsylvania, but moved to Sugar Land, TX in 1990. Dr. Vuu graduated from Dulles High School and attended Eastern Mennonite University. He subsequently moved back to Houston and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Texas Dental Branch. Dr. Vuu graduated at the top of his Dental School class and was elected into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. Following Dental School he was accepted into the dual degree Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at the University of Texas Dental Branch where he received extensive training in facial trauma, jaw reconstruction, dental implant procedures, sedation, bone grafting, wisdom teeth removal, dental extractions, and corrective jaw surgery. As part of his training Dr. Vuu received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas at Houston Medical School and also completed a one year General Surgery Internship at the same institution. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Vuu and his wife, Tu Pham, have two children, Nathan and Natalie, who both attend First Baptist Academy. In his spare time Dr. Vuu likes to hang out with his family, run, bike, swim, watch sports, and work on his golf game. He and his wife also love traveling, going to new restaurants, and trying different foods.

  • Chris D. Dauterive, DDS

    Meet Dr. Dauterive

    Dr. Chris Dauterive grew up in Katy, Texas. He attended St. Thomas High School and received his college degree from the University of St. Thomas in Houston. After college, Dr. Dauterive earned his dental degree from the University of Texas Dental Branch and then completed his four-year specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Dr. Dauterive is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He performs surgeries ranging from wisdom teeth extractions and dental implant placement to corrective jaw surgery and facial reconstruction. Dr. Dauterive is certified to perform all levels of anesthesia and he currently holds certificates in Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Dr. Dauterive is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He is on hospital staff and has operating privileges at Houston Methodist Hospital, Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital. He is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Texas, Southwest and Houston Societies of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Dauterive is also an active member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and Greater Houston Dental Society.   • Rodolfo O. Garza, DDS, MD

    Meet Dr. “Rudy” Garza

    Dr. Garza attended Texas A&M Health Science Center, Baylor College of Dentistry to obtain a DDS degree; The University of Texas at Houston Health Science Center for a Certificate in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Certificate in General Surgery, Trained at Level 1 Trauma Center; and McGovern Medical School to complete his medical degree. Dr. Garza received some awards during his years in dental school such as: Distinguished achievement in Oral Surgery as a senior student given by the Southwest Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. Outstanding student leader award given by American College of Dentists. Dr. Garza enjoys spending time with his wife and family. His wife is expecting their first child in late October. He is very close to his brother and sister, which both practice dentistry. He loves to play tennis, which he played in college for NCAA Division I Tennis programs.
