Sheryl has called the Houston area home for most of her life. She is active in the legal, civic, and spiritual communities in the area and is committed to strengthening and utilizing these ties to benefit her clients. For fifty years she has tirelessly expended her energy to represent family law clients. Sheryl’s service extends beyond the courtroom however, as she attempts to educate clients on how their circumstances have brought them to seek legal services and how they can move forward in developing a new, productive life for themselves, their family, and loved ones. Like all attorneys, most clients seek out Sheryl’s help when their life circumstances have created significant disruptions in their health, safety, or emotional and mental well-being. Whether the family matter relates to divorces with or without property, initial child custody arrangements or modifications, prenuptial agreements, adoptions or separation agreements, Sheryl understands how personal and unique each situation can be. Each client receives the time and attention necessary to determine the best path to follow to seek out a just and satisfactory resolution. Education Sheryl is a graduate of Memorial High School in Houston, Texas. She then attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, where she received an Associate of Arts Degree. Following her time at Stephens, she spent her junior year abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France. Upon returning to the states, Sheryl attended Sophie Newcomb College, part of Tulane University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1967. Sheryl attended the University of Texas School of Law in Austin where she received many academic and leadership honors and accolades. She became the first female law clerk to a federal judge in the Southern District of Texas, a part of the Fifth Circuit. During her clerkship, Sheryl taught law becoming the first female on the faculty of South Texas College of Law. Thereafter, she became the first woman on the partnership track at the firm of Baker and Botts, primarily engaging in civil litigation and family law for over six years. In 1980, she opened her own boutique firm specializing in family law. In 1978, Sheryl along with three other family lawyers, founded the Family Law Section of the Houston Bar Association. Thereafter, she served two terms as president of the organization. In 1979, Sheryl became one of the first females to become certified by the Texas Bar Association as a family law specialist. Sheryl became the third female in Texas to be asked to join the prestigious American Academy of Matrimonial Attorneys.
